The Angels Look to Bounce Back After All-Star Break
After going 1-9 in their last 10 games, the mid-season All-Star break couldn’t have come at a better time for the struggling Angels. The respite from the regular season will allow LA to regain their composure, and with a 45-46 record, the Angels will look to regain some ground in the standings as well. LA is 4th in the AL West, 5.0 games behind the Astros in the division, but despite their 6-14 record in their last 20 games, the Angels are being given a 60.2% chance to beat the Astros. A big part of that is due to Shohei Ohtani, who is set to start on the mound for the Angels on Friday against Houston.
Arguably the best player in baseball right now, Ohtani is 7-4 on the season, with a 3.34 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. He’s recorded 132 strikeouts in 100.1 innings pitched, and has given up just 67 hits. With Ohtani on the mound, the Angels have a good chance to turn things around with a win against Houston.
The Houston Astros went 6-4 in their last 10 games before the All-Star break, but will be without two of their best players, Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve, against the Angels on Friday. Houston is 50-41 on the season, making them a top-10 team in the MLB, but without Alvarez and Altuve, the Astros are in trouble.
I like the Los Angeles Angels in this one. The Astros starting pitcher has yet to be announced, but with LA’s Shohei Ohtani on the mound, it would be unwise to go against the AL MVP front-runner.
So for our Astros vs. Angels expert pick, take the Angels to win on Friday.
