Tampa Bay’s Historic Start Continues | Red Sox vs Rays | OSB
Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays
By Sam Batz
The undefeated Tampa Bay Rays will host the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, April 12th for the third matchup of a four game series (6:40 PM EST, ESPN+). The Rays are the only undefeated team in the MLB, and beat the Sox 1-0 on Monday to improve to 10-0. The Red Sox are the 4th team of the young season to fail to beat the Rays, but get another shot at it on Wednesday. The Rays are favored to win and their moneyline is priced -105. Boston is the underdog (+125), but are expected to at least keep it close.
Boston Red Sox Off To A Slow Start (+125)
The Boston Red Sox won the World Series back in 2018, but in the following 5 years, made the playoffs just once (2021). They missed out on the postseason last year after going 78-84, and if the start to the current campaign is any indication, they may miss out once again. The Sox are 5-5 through the first 10 games, and after sweeping the Detroit Tigers, they fell to the Rays 1-0 on Monday. They face Tampa on Tuesday, then again on Wednesday, and round off the series on Thursday, with all four games being played in Florida. The Red Sox are being given a 28% chance to make the playoffs, but if they can beat the Rays just once this series, they will have made their mark.
Tampa Bay Rays Are The Best In Baseball (-105)
The Rays of Tampa Bay are 10-0, the best record in the MLB, and they are doing it in style. The Rays have the most runs (76), the most RBIs (75), and the most homeruns (25). Their pitchers have the lowest collective ERA (1.70) and Tampa Bay has given up the least amount of runs (18) in the league. With a run differential of +58 in just 10 games, it’s no surprise Tampa is at the top of the standings. In their series with the Red Sox, the Rays get to play all four games at home, where they are 7-0, and on Wednesday, Tampa Bay is expected to extend their undefeated streak against a middling Boston side.

Red Sox vs. Rays: Game Changers
Boston Red Sox
- Adam Duvall leads the Red Sox with a .455 batting average (3rd), 15 hits (T-8th), 4 Homeruns (T-3rd), and 14 RBIs (T-2nd). However on Monday’s loss to the Rays, Duvall suffered a wrist injury and has been ruled OUT for Wednesday
- Nick Pivetta is tied for the most-innings pitched (10) but leads the Red Sox with a 0.90 ERA
- Chris Sale is Boston’s ace, he has pitched 8 innings and has an ERA of 11.25 but he leads the Red Sox with 13 K’s
Tampa Bay Rays
- Tampa is the only undefeated team in the MLB, averaging 7.6 runs for and 1.8 runs against per game
- Josh Lowe leads the Rays with a .364 batting average on 22 AB’s
- Randy Arozarena leads the Rays with 14 hits, 11 RBI’s, and has the 2nd-best batting average (.359) on 39 AB’s
- 4 Starting Pitchers for the Rays (Jeffery Springs, Drew Rasmussen, Shane McClanahan, and Zach Eflin) have 2 wins each, 58 combined strikeouts, and an average ERA of 1.19
Red Sox vs. Rays Prediction
Take the Tampa Bay Rays to win on Wednesday. The Rays are the hottest team in baseball and the Red Sox don’t have the pitching needed to beat the best hitters in the league. Through just 10 games, Tampa has made themselves the team to beat, and while the Red Sox aren’t terrible, they still won’t win a single game of this series. The Rays are too good on both sides of the ball, and Boston are their latest victims. 10-0 is a historically good start to a season, and I for one can’t wait to see how far the Rays can go.
Prediction: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline (-105)
