Seattle Continues to Battle
The Seattle Mariners looked down and out after going a middling 45-44 in the first half of the season. Seattle’s dream of back-to-back postseason appearances was looking increasingly unlikely, but in the last two months, the Mariners have turned the AL West on it’s head. After going 38-17 (win-rate: 71.7%) through July and August, Seattle now sits atop the divisional standings at 77-60. They are 3rd in the American League with the 2nd-fewest runs allowed (553), and post the best ERA (3.69) in the MLB. Seattle is often overlooked, but to those of us paying attention, the Mariners appear to be a legit championship contender.
The Cincinnati Reds are 72-68. Their record is good enough for 7th in the National League, but the Reds are 3rd in the NL Central, 5.5 games back from first, and will likely miss the playoffs for the third-straight season. Unlike the Mariners, the Reds have a terrible defense. Cincinnati’s 695 runs allowed is the 3rd-most in the NL, and they post the 24th-worst ERA at 4.70. Despite their 6-3 win over the Mariners on Monday, the Reds won’t do it again in this one, especially against Seattle’s Logan Gilbert, who is 12-5 with a 1.05 WHIP.
So for our Mariners vs. Reds expert pick, take the Seattle Mariners Moneyline on Wednesday.
