Reigning World Series Champs Fight For Playoff Position
The Houston Astros are hoping to make it back to the World Series for the 5th time in 7 seasons, but face intense competition from their fellow AL West rivals. At 71-55, the Astros are 2nd in the division, 4th in the American League, and 6th in the MLB, giving them an 84.1% chance to reach the postseason for the 7th consecutive season. But Houston was swept 0-3 versus the Seattle Mariners in their last series, cutting into their divisional lead, and will look to regain their footing against Boston, who the Astros beat 9-4 in the series opener on Monday.
The Red Sox are 66-59, yet despite their best efforts, Boston hasn’t been able to breach the top-3 in the highly competitive AL East. The Red Sox are 4th in the division, 7th in the American League, and 11th in the MLB, 4.5 games behind the Astros. Boston is great at the plate, recording the 3rd-most hits (1120) this season, but they’ve struggled on the mound, posting the 13th-worst ERA (4.38) and the 7th-most hits allowed (1089).
I like the Astros in this one. Houston averages 8.62 hits per game this season, but nearly doubled their average with 16 hits against the Red Sox on Monday. Houston will continue to tee off on Boston’s lackluster pitching, which will inevitably lead to another win on Wednesday.
So for our Red Sox vs. Astros expert pick, take the Houston Astros Moneyline at -102 on Wednesday.
