Tonight, the Seattle Mariners will play host to the Oakland Athletics for the first game of a three game series. Their series couldn’t start any quicker for the Mariners, as they will look to wash down the taste of being swept in a four game series to the measly Boston Red Sox. Fortunately for them, the Oakland A’s are one of the few teams in the MLB who have a worse record than the Boston Red Sox. The Athletics are entering this game with 17 wins and 26 losses and currently sit in dead last in their division of the American League West. Poor as that is, the Mariners are only half a game ahead of them at 17 wins and 25 losses, both of these teams have lost seven of their previous ten games. 

For the Athletics, their struggle this season has been hitting the baseball as opposed to pitching, as they currently rank 30th in team batting average and 27th in runs scored on the season, but do have a good ERA as a team in which they ranked 14th. The opposite is the case for the Mariners, who have struggled pitching and rank 25th in Team ERA, but have managed a good team batting average in which they ranked 17th, and 10th in team hits on the season. Taking the mound for the Athletics will be Zach Logue, who has been stellar this season, and owns a 2.04 ERA on the year with 14 strikeouts and a two wins and two losses record. Although the run total is a low one, the under has hit in two of the last three games for the Athletics and I thoroughly expected to once again.
