The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently 77-87 which is fourth place in the NL West. The Diamondbacks have been eliminated from the playoffs. Over their last 1o games, they are 3-7 and are currently on a two-game losing streak. They are coming off of a series against the San Francisco Giants where they lost two of the three games they played on the road. Heading into this game against the Brewers, the Diamondbacks will have Merrill Kelly take the mound for them. On the season, Kelly is 13-8 with an ERA of 3.43 and a WHIP of 1.14. Kelly has pitched against the Brewers one time this season and he was able to help the Diamondbacks get a win. In that game, he pitched 7 innings and only allowed 4 hits and no runs. The Diamondbacks are not a great pitching or hitting team. They rank 23rd in the league for ERA with a 4.27. Kelly is statistically their second-best pitcher in terms of ERA. On the hitting side, the Diamondbacks rank 25th in the league for batting average with a .231 and rank 26th for hits with 1,220. They only have four batters that have recorded over 115 hits on the season. Josh Rojas leads the team in batting average and OBP while Christian Walkers leads in home runs, RBIs, and hits. They will need Kelly to have another great outing for them against the Brewers.

The Milwaukee Brewers are currently 85-75 which is second place in the NL Central. Unfortunately for them, they just missed the playoffs as the Philadelphia Phillies have a two-game lead on them. Over the Brewers’ last 10 games, they are 5-5 and are on a one-game winning streak. In their last series against the Miami Marlins, they lost three out of the four games they played at home. In this game against the Diamondbacks, Milwaukee will have Corbin Burnes on the mound for them. On the season, Burnes is 12-8 with an ERa of 2.98 and a WHIP of 0.98. Like Kelly, Burnes has already pitched against the Diamondbacks. He was not awarded the win but Milwaukee was able to win in extra innings. In that game, he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 5 runs off of 7 hits. The Brewers rank 13th in the league for ERA with a 3.85. They also rank 3rd for strikeouts with 1,509. They are not as good of a hitting team as they are pitching. They rank 22nd in the league for batting average with a .235. On top of that, they rank 21st for hits with 1,256 and 27th for strikeouts with 1,444. Five of their hitters have recorded over 100 hits on the season and Christian Yelich leads the team with 143.

These two teams have found success against each other as this series record is close. With this game being played in Milwaukee and it being the final game of the season for the Brewers, I imagine they go out there and leave it all on the field. Although Kelly has found success against the Brewers once, Burnes is a great pitcher in this league and will be able to match Kelly’s performance. The Brewers will have the edge in this one as they are the better hitting team and all-around better squad.

For our expert, Arizona Diamondbacks vs Milwaukee Brewers pick, take the Brewers -1.5.
