Phillies need to Figure out Alec Bohm Situation

It’s not often that a team that has one went in for games including three straight losses is the favorites but this is the case we find ourselves in in the Marlins versus Phillies home opener for the Marlins.

The main aspect of the Phillies I want to focus on today is their uncertainty on how to use first round pick Alec Bohm. Alec Bohm has started twice in the first six games of the year and has gotten a total of nine plate appearances. This is not the ideal for a young still-developing player. A big part of this is because the Phillies have played a recent string of right handers, which favors their other first round pick, Bryson Scott . This trend seems to continue this week as the Marlins will have three right handers in this four game series.

The first right hander the Marlins will have in this game will be Sandy Alcantara, a career 3.49 ERA pitcher, who has plenty of hype surrounding him. In 10 appearances against the Phillies, Sandy has a 5-4 record with an ERA of 3.14 and an average of 5.6 strikeouts a game. The Phillies average 4.17 runs a game, which is in the bottom half of the MLB, and have a batting average of .237.
