Phillies Clash With NL East Rivals
The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to get back to the World Series, but there’s a lot of work to do before they can get there. At 62-52 the Phillies are 2nd in the NL East, but trail the division leading Braves by 10.5 games and can’t afford to drop games against anyone, but especially not against a fellow NL East rival.
The Washington Nationals are scraping the bottom-of-the-barrel in the NL East, and while their 50-64 record has likely disqualified them from postseason contention, the Nationals can still spoil the party for their division rivals. Washington is 4-4 against the Phillies this season, and their triumphant late game winner on Tuesday may just propel the Nationals past Philly in this series. Washington went 7-3 in their last 10 and are playing like a team with nothing to lose, marking them as a potential threat for any team vying for playoff position.
