It feels like forever ago since I’ve broken down any baseball games in my videos. With the nba playoffs in full swing, we’ve been neglecting America’s favorite pastime. Some people have been askin for free mlb picks and predictions so here’s one for you guys.
The Phillies are playing game 2 against the Cincinnati reds in Ohio at 710 pm eastern time. The current Phillies and reds odds have the phils as the slight favorite at -110 odds.
This is obviously due to the pitching matchup and not game 1’s result. Monday afternoon, the reds absolutely obliterated the Phillies in a lopsided game with a final score of 11-1. The score was already 8-1 after five innings and phils starting pitcher Velasquez was far removed from the game.
The Phillies Have Not been good on the road this year,
Especially now with Harper out. They aren’t producing many runs on this road trip. They just lost 2 in a row in Tampa and have now lost 4 of their last 5 road games. Their road series record is 0-6-2 and they’re facing another loss here if they can’t turn the table on the reds.
Austin Nola is pitching for the Phillies, he’s been their ace the last few seasons and always has an era in the low 3.00’s. Unfortunately he hasn’t helped their road troubles. With Nola starting, the Phillies are 1-5 this year. He has given up atleast 3 earned runs in 5-6 innings pitched in all but one of them. He generally get the quality start without the win because he doesn’t get any run support. Somehow all of his road games this season trend under. All of his road losses went under except for the game at coors field in Colorado where altitude is an obvious factor.
Pitching for the reds on tuesday is sonny gray. He hasn’t won a home decision yet this season but has an era of just north of 3.00 which is excellent at great American ballpark. The reds have won two of his starts at home in the later game after Gray was taken out.
He has given up 3 earned runs in each of his last two home starts in the month of May. But in his road win last Thursday, he pitched 6 scoreless and only gave up 2 hits. Something to look out for..3 of the Phillies bats have hit him well in the past have combined for 13 rbi on 69 at bats…rhys Hoskins, Matt Joyce and brad miller should be considered for my daily fantasy baseball players.
Game Pick and prediction
Now for my Phillies vs reds prediction and picks! I think this game stays under the vegas total of 7.5 runs. It will fall in line with the trends in 84% of Aaron nola’s away Starts. I’m expecting the Phillies to keep their team total under 4 runs against this reds pitching staff. Antone and others have been nice out fb the bull pen recently, so after Gray pitches 6, we shouldn’t see too much late game action. Nola himself, should go for 6-7 innings in this game. His career numbers against the reds are outstanding, only giving up 3 rbi on 62 at bats.
I don’t expect many runs out of them despite their offensive explosion on Monday. They have the whole the bottom of the lineup filled with sub .250 hitters. They’ve had to patch together lineups with 4 of their starting bats on the 10 day injured list. It was definitely surprising to see them up so many runs Monday but they won’t be doing it again Tuesday!
My Phillies vs reds picks are under 7.5 runs, and if I had to choice a side, I would go with the reds as the home dog, winning a second game against this weak Phillies road team.
