New York Yankees Favored Over Toronto

Postseason hopefuls, the Toronto Blue Jays, are 83-67 (55.3%) with 3-straight wins under their belt, yet the Blue Jays the underdogs on Tuesday against the 76-74 (50.7%) New York Yankees. The Yankees, who were expected to at least make the playoffs, have fallen well short of expectations. The Blue Jays, who lead the Yankees by 7.0 games in the AL East, are in no way guaranteed a postseason position, but Toronto is certainly in a better spot than New York. Despite the favorite tag, I don’t suggest betting on the Yankees. 

I like the Blue Jays in this one. Toronto is much better than the Yankees at the plate, recording the 7th-most hits with 1318, while New York is 29th with 1111 hits. Toronto also has 47 more  runs scored and 26 fewer runs against than the Yankees, and shouldn’t be bothered by the burden of travel, as the Blue Jays are 42-33 (56.0%) on the road. The Yankees are 39-36 (52.0%) at home, and 4-3 versus the Blue Jays, but with nothing but pride to play for, New York will struggle to keep pace with Toronto’s skillful batters.
