The Mets are massive favorites in tonight’s game, and for good reason. This is a battle of the opposites. The Mets have been one of the best teams in baseball the entire year, and are top five favorites to win the World Series according to Vegas. The Rockies on the other hand have been in the lowest of tiers this season. Their respective records are currently 81-46 for the Mets, and 54-73 for the Rockies. Statistically, the Mets rank top 6 in both pitching and hitting, and although the Rockies rank 1st overall behind the plate, they rank a horrible 30th on the mound. In the first two games of this four game series between the Mets and the Rockies the Mets have taken both games with total runs being in favor of New York at 10-7.  That 1st ranked hitting offense for Colorado will be going up against Max Max Scherzer tonight. Scherzer (9-3) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk over 6.2 innings Monday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Yankees. So expect him to want to bounce back quickly and swiftly. Scherzer’s ERA is 2.33 alongside a 137:21 K:BB through 18 starts after punching out a season-low three batters. 

Scherzers’s opponent on the Rockies side tonight will be German Marquez. Marcus is coming off a game he would like to forget as he was pounded for six runs and although the Rockies came away with the win and his last start he did not factor into it. The 27-year-old right-hander has a 4.88 ERA over four starts in August and a season-long WHIP of 1.43. That is actually slightly better than Azia around the season of five. 22 but despite his high numbers German Marquez is a better pitcher than the number would indicate.
