Matt Chapman is having a great season | BlueJays vs Pirates | OSB
Blue Jays vs. Pirates odds, prediction, and betting tips for MLB
The Toronto Blue Jays will have their second game of the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates when they travel to PNC Park (6:35 p.m. ET). The Blue Jays need a win badly as they have lost their last five games. In their series against the Boston Red Sox, Toronto got swept and didn’t win a game. The Blue Jays need to find a way to fix their road problems, because the Pirates are not a joke this season. Pittsburgh is also looking for a win though as well losing their last four games. In their series against the Tampa Bay Rays did not win a game losing all three. Look for the Pirates to come out strong as they head back home to take on the struggling Blue Jays.
Blue Jays Baseball
The Blue Jays are in fourth place in the AL East with a 18-14 record. Toronto is currently eight games back from the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the divison. This is an important series for Toronto as they will look to turn their struggles around and pick up some games on the Rays. The Blue Jays have struggled on the road so far this year with a 9-11 record. This season Toronto has scored have scored 151 runs and have allowed 150. Jose Berrios will be on the mound for Toronto in this game. Berrios has a 2-3 record with a 5.29 ERA and 34 strikeouts. In his last start he went 5.1 innings giving up 11 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, with 4 strikeouts. He will have his hands full against a good Pirates team.
So far into the season Matt Chapman is having a great season for the Blue Jays. Chapaman leads Toronto with a .351 batting average, a .435 on base percentage, with 21 RBIs. Bo Bichette has also been a key piece for the Blue Jays this season leading the team with 7 homeruns and 45 hits, while having a .331 batting average. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has done his thing so far this season with 7 doubles and 7 homeruns, while having a .320 batting average.
In their loss against the Red Sox on the road, Boston got the bats going early as they took a 6-0 lead in the second inning. Guerrero Jr. hits a solo homerun in the fourth inning to narrow the lead, but in that same inning the Red Sox scored two more runs. The Blue Jays tried to comeback in the fifth inning scoring two runs, but in the eighth inning Bosotn scored two runs to put he dagger in Toronto. Kevin Gausman struggled on the mound for the Blue Jays going 3.1 innings giving up 10 hits, 8 runs, 1 homerun, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts.
Pirates Baseball
The Pirates are in first place in the NL Central with a 20-12 record on the season. This is an important series for the Pirates as the Milwaukee Brewers are only 1.5 games back from them for first place in the NL Central. They have had a good start to the season playing in front of their home fans as they are 9-4 on the season at PNC Park. So far this season Pittsburgh has scored 160 runs and have allowed 123. Johan Oviedo will try his best to keep at 123 runs allowed. This season he has a 2-2 record with a 4.78 ERA. In his last start he only went 2.1 innings giving up 9 hits, 7 earned runs, 2 walks, with 1 strikeout. Look to see if Oviedo can have a good day on the mound against a struggling Blue Jays team.
So far this season the Pirates have had many of their players step up offensively. Bryan Reynolds has been a big piece for Pittsburgh so far this season as he leads the team in batting average, RBIs, and hits. Reynolds has a .325 batting average, 23 RBIs, and 37 hits on the season. Andrew McCutchen has been fantastic also, with a .238 batting average, 6 homeruns, 15 RBIs, and 24 hits. In their loss against the Rays on the road, the Pirates struggled hitting. Pittsburgh did not score till the ninth inning. Going into the last inning the Rays were down 3-0. The Pirates almost cameback as Carlos Santana hit a two-run homerun to only trail 3-2, but Pittsburgh could not find a way to score a third run. Blue Jays vs. Pirates Prediction
I love the Pirates in this game at home against a struggling Blue Jays team. The Pirates just simply win at PNC Park. They have been a sneaky team so far this season and I think they take the first two games of this series against the Blue Jays. Plus, Jose Berrios on the Blue Jays hasn’t been great this season. Go and lock this bet in right now and lets cash!
