Marlins End Streak

The Miami Marlins may quite possibly be the hardest team to get a read on in all of major league baseball. They started the season off 5-8, about what was expected from them having opened the season with the second worst odds to win the NL East at +1400. They then went on a seven game winning streak bringing their record to 12-8 and only a game and a half behind the Mets for the division lead. Since then, they have now lost 6 straight including the first two games of this four game series against the Padres. Miraculously, they are still in second place in their division, but mostly in part to the extremely underwhelming seasons the Braves and Phillies have gotten off to. 

The Padres’ season has gone just about how it was expected, if not slightly better. They had the second best opening day odds to win their division, understandably only behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now 27 games into the season, the Padres have the second best record in their division at 18-9, and are only half a game behind the Dodgers. They are on a two game winning streak, both against the Marlins, and in their last game, infielders Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer, and Matt Beaty all had key RBIs. 

Expect a strek ending win for the Marlins and starting pitcher Trevor Rodgers. Rodgers is having an underwhelming season no doubt, with a record of 1-4, and an ERA of 6.14, numbers dramatically different from just a season ago where he pitched exceptionally, but he does have a 1.69 ERA in away games, which is exactly where he’ll be today.
