Tonight, the Houston Astros will travel to take on the Los Angeles Angels. And the line for this game is rather deceptive. The simple explanation for the line being this way, with the angels being the favorites, comes down to one thing, and that is Shohei Otani. Shohei has been a favorite in every single game that he has pitched, and after he has made his second consecutive All Star game as both a pitcher and a hitter, boasting an ERA of 2.44 and a batting average of .256, he hasn’t done anything to change anyone’s mind, that he shouldn’t be the favorite in the games that he starts. But we have to remember a couple of things. The Houston Astros truly are the Big Brothers of this division, and not only have a 12 game lead against the second place Mariners in the division would also have a 19 game gap between the Astros and the Angels. And it’s not like they’re throwing out some bum to go against Shohei Otani, they’re sending out, Christian Javier, who has been a great pitcher for them this season in his second year having a record of six wins and four losses with an ERA of 3.01, along with 102 strikeouts on the season. So to put it simply, the Astros have just been a flat out way better team than the angels, and the books want you to get caught up in the fact that Shohei Otani is pitching, but remember, he has four losses on the year, and this will be one of them.
