Houston Gets Much Needed Win

The Houston Astros are looking like a team poised to make a deep playoff run, per usual. They are once again atop of their division, a spot that they have been quite comfortable in for the last three seasons. The Houston Astros as an organization has only made the World Series four times, and yet three of those times have been within the last five seasons. Those times have been in 2017, 2019, and 2021, and if they keep playing baseball like this, they might be in it again in 2022. This season, the Astros have excelled behind the plate, led by Yorden Alvarez, who has 17 home runs on the season and is batting with an average of .302 and has knocked in 39 RBI’s. And while he has been huge for them, he hasn’t even been their MVP on the season. That award goes to the man who seems to be eluding Father Time, Justin Verlander.

Verlander is now in his 16th season and the right handed pitcher has a winning record of seven wins and two losses with an ERA of 2.13, and 73 strikeouts. He has easily been one of the top five pitchers in the MLB this season. Now, while the Houston Astros have been very impressive, they do enter this game on a three game losing streak, which they will seek to rectify. Their last three games have been a 6-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners, a 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins, and then 5-1 poor showing once again to those same Miami Marlins. But at the time of this writing, the Astros are currently playing the Marlins in their last game of their three game series, and in the top of the seventh they have a 5-0 lead. This will just help the Astros, as they will now get a morale boost heading into this Rangers game that they are not on a losing streak.
