Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays

Tommy D. back with online sports bet, America’s favorite sports information channel.

It’s Sunday, May 2, the Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays Pick and Predictions report. This game starts at 1:10 PM EST tonight at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, where the Astros and Rays face off for the third time this season.

Astros are playing well of late

The Houston Astros (14-12) are playing their best baseball of the season as they recorded seven wins in the last nine games. Although they failed to sweep the Seattle Mariners in four games, they did win three of them, while the Astros opened the three-game series against the Rays with a 9-2 victory.

Christian Javier (3-0) will be on the mound for the fifth time this year, and he is easily the best Astros’ pitcher so far in the season. The 24-year-old Dominican didn’t allow a single run in his last three starts, while Houston won all four games in which he started. At the moment, Javier has a fantastic 0.87 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. His extraordinary form is the biggest reason why the Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays Odds are on the visiting team’s side.

Rays still not improving

The Tampa Bay Rays (13-14) are still being inconsistent this season. They lost six of the last nine games, including the previous two to the Oakland Athletics and Houston Astros. The pitching staff is not playing well so far in the campaign, which turns out to be Tampa’s biggest problem.

Talking about poor pitchers, Rich Hill (1-1) is getting his sixth start of the year, but he is way past his best, and it’s clear the Rays cannot rely on him. The 41-year-old lefty has a 7.25 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts over 22.1 innings.

Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays Pick

Houston won four of the previous five H2H encounters, and they have been in a much better form than the Rays in the past couple of weeks. The pitching matchup is completely on Javier’s side, and that’s why my Astros vs. Rays prediction is Houston to win. Rich Hill will struggle early on against the in-form Houston’s batters, so I don’t see how the veteran is going to get out of trouble.
