Houston Astros vs. Kansas City Royals
The Houston Astros head into game two of a four-game series between them and the Kansas City Royals. The Astros have been on the road for some time now and when they finish here they’ll host the Mariners. The Astros are clearly the better team than the Royals hence the -208 odds per BetOnline. However, they can’t let their guard down against the Royals, who were able to claim some notable wins this season.
Morale is likely low for the Royals when they head into this series. They’ve lost three series in a row, two of them being to the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, they face the former World Champion Houston Astros. Times are tough for the Royals who’s record is well under the .500 mark. However, a win on Tuesday could boost morale and give them the push they need to close the season strong. Let’s take a look at the Houston Astros vs. Kansas City Royals and give you our MLB Pick and Prediction.
Framber Valdez Makes The Start For Houston
News for the Royals likely got worse when they heard that the 8-3 Framber Valdez would be taking the mound. Valdez is one of the Astros best pitchers and boasts an ERA of 3.09. The thing that makes the Astros such a good team is their batting matches their pitching. They’ve got one of the best team batting averages in the league. Even more important, they have the fourth-best batting average against.
This makes it tough for teams to get wins over Houston, especially a series win. Each group in Houston compliments each other. If the batters are having an off night, the pitching steps up, and vice versa. This is why they’re one of the favorites to win the World Series again, there’s no denying this team’s talent.
Royals Are Praying For A Win
After being swept by the St. Louis Cardinals not long ago, the Royals are just hoping for some sign of life. Right now, morale is low, but a win over a team like the Astros could bring it right back up. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of work that goes into beating a team like Houston. As it stands, BetOnline has the Royals as +160 underdogs, not bad considering the team they’re up against.
The biggest question for the Royals is how will Daniel Lynch perform on the mound. He’s 2-3 as a starter with an ERA of 5.97. Remember, he’s going against one of the best batting groups in the league, so it doesn’t look good for Kansas City. If the Royals want to win this one they’ll have to do it with their batting.
Our Pick For Astros Versus Royals
Between these two teams, the clear pick is the Houston Astros. They’re starting the better pitcher and have much better batters. Although the Royals have pulled off upsets before, we don’t see that happening here. Instead, we believe the Astros will get out to an early lead and coast through the rest of the game. The Royals need to start finding ways to add significant batting and pitching to their roster. They won’t be able to take down teams such as the Astros without it. Hopefully, this game will be an example of the things they need to work on in the offseason.
