Guardians Face Rays For The First Time This Season

After their historic start to the season, the Tampa Bay Rays have inevitably come back down to earth. At 69-48, the Rays no longer lead the AL East and are 3rd in the American League. In their last 10, the Rays were 6-4, but enter their first series with Cleveland after back-to-back home losses. Tampa has been a stalwart opponent against those who travel to Tropicana field, winning 64.4% of their home games this season. For this, and the fact that Tampa is 12.5 games up on Cleveland, the Rays are expected to win on Saturday.  

The Cleveland Guardians are 2nd in the AL Central, but with a 56-60 record, they come in at No. 11 in the American League. If Cleveland doesn’t win the division, they can kiss the postseason goodbye, but after winning just 3 of their last 10, the Guardians look lost. They’ve struggled on the road, winning 43.9% of their away games, and now face one of the best teams in the MLB. The Guardians, with 463 total runs, just don’t have the firepower needed to keep up with the Rays, who have scored 140 more runs than Cleveland this season.
