The Giants and Reds Sit In Second Place of Their Divisions
San Francisco came back hot after the All-Star break, extending their winning streak to 5-games after sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in their previous series. The Giants are now 2nd in the NL West with a 52-41 record, and 3rd in the National League, 2.5 games up on the Reds.
Cincinnati is 50-44, and like the Giants, find themselves 2nd in their division. They have yet to play this season, but the Reds had the Giants number last year, going 4-2 against San Fran in 2022. But the Reds have now lost 4-straight, and with a run differential of -14, my confidence in Cincinnati has waned.
I like the Giants in this one. They have been excellent in away games, winning 57.8% of the time on the road, while the Reds have inexplicably struggled at home, going 23-24 in Cincinnati. The Reds have more runs scored, but the Giants have fewer runs against, and in this matchup, defense will win the game.
