Rockies vs. Padres
The Colorado Rockies will wrap up their opening series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park (4:10 p.m. ET). The Rockies will look end their opening series of the season in a sweep against the Padres. Colorado will start left-hander Austin Gomber on the mound against the Padres in this one. Look out as the Rockies are off to a hot start on the season so far. Meanwhile, the Padres will look for revenge against the Rockies. They need a confidence boost and at least get one win in this series. San Diego will start right-hander Seth Lugo on the mound in this one. It is never great for team moral to get swept in the opening series of the season.
Rockies Baseball
The Rockies are in first place in the NL West with a 2-0 record. So far in this series they have outscored the Padres 11-3. Winning their Opening Day game against them 7-2 and winning their second game 4-1. For them to continue their hot streak they have to rely on Gomber to pitch a great game. Last season Gomber had a 5-7 record with a 5.56 ERA. He also had 95 strikeouts last season. Look to see if he can help the Rockies pick up another win on the season.
So far this season after two games C.J. Cron is leading the Rockies in almost every hitting category. Cron has a .714 batting average with 2 homeruns and 5 RBI’s. Charlie Blackmon has been good leading the team with 5 hits. He has a .556 batting average on the season so far.
In their win against the Padres in their last game, left-hander Kyle Freeland had a fantastic outing going 6.0 inning allowing 3 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 walk, and had 1 strikeout. In the first inning the Rockies offense helped out scoring 2 runs. Then in the fifth inning Blackmon put the gane out of reach hitting a two-run homerun to give them a 4-0 lead. The bullpen was able to hold onto the lead and get the 4-1 win. The Rockies had 9 hits with zero errors.
Padres Baseball
It has been a surprising start for the Padres this season. They are in last place in the NL West with a 0-2 record. It has been a surprising start because of the superstars they have on their team such as Juan Soto, Manny Machado, and Xander Bogaerts. San Diego will rely on Seth Lugo to help them contain the Rockies offense. Last year Lugo was in the bullpen. He was pretty solid there too with a 3.60 ERA with 59 strikeouts. He also made 3 saves last season.
So far this season the Padres bats have been dead. Besides Bogaerts no one else has had a great start. Bogaerts has a .571 batting average on the season and leads the team with 4 hits. No one on the Padres has found the long ball as they have zero homeruns as a team. Look to see if they can get their bats rolling in this one.
In their loss against the Rockies in their last game right-hander Nick Martinez struggled a little bit, but got little to no run support from his offense. Martinez pitched 7.0 innings and allowed 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 walks, and had 5 strikeouts. The Padres only run didn’t come till the 8th inning off of a Bogaerts sacrifice fly.

Rockies vs. Padres Prediction
I like the Padres to cover the spread in this game. Even without Fernando Tatis Jr. they too good of a team to continue to struggle like this. Plus, this could be the breakout game they need against a pitcher who struggled all of last year in Gomber. I think Soto and Machado get the bats rolling in this one and help out Lugo. San Diego wins this game 5-2 against Colorado.
Rockies vs. Padres Pick: Padres -1.5 (-115).
