Dodgers Host Cubs In First Matchup of The Season | Cubs vs Dodgers | OSB
Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Dodgers
By Sam Batz
On Friday, April 14th the Chicago Cubs take the show out West to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in Dodger Stadium (10:10 PM EST, Marquee Sports/Spectrum SportsNet/MLB Extra Innings). The Cubs and Dodgers have yet to play in 2023, but last season, Los Angeles went 7-0 against the Cubs. Chicago will look to redeem themselves from last season but must do so on the road. All three games of their upcoming series with the Dodgers will be played in LA, where the Cubs went 0-4 last year. The Dodgers are favored at -185 to win, while Chicago’s moneyline is priced at +145.
Chicago Cubs Breakdown (+145)
The Cubs are 6-5 through 11 games, which puts them at 3rd place in the NL Central. They are only 1.5 games behind the division leading Milwaukee Brewers, but the season is young, and Chicago is not expected to keep pace within the NL Central. According to FiveThirtyEight, the Cubs have a 24% chance to make the playoffs. Chicago hasn’t eclipsed 80+ win’s in a season since 2019, and likely won’t do so this year, as they are projected to finish 78-84. The Cubs are coming off a three game series with Seattle, where they went 2-1 and averaged 6.3 runs per game, but face a tougher challenge on Friday, one which the Cubs are not expected to win.
Los Angeles Dodgers Breakdown
The Dodgers are off to a slow start with a 7-6 record, and find themselves in 3rd place in the NL West. They are 1 game behind the division leading Diamondbacks, but in a heavily competitive region like the NL West, LA is expected to shine. The Dodgers have an 82% chance to make the playoffs, and are projected to finish the year with 90+ wins. Last season, LA had the best record in baseball (111-51) but failed to make it to the World Series, falling to the San Diego Padres in the NL Divisional Series. The Dodgers may not be off to the perfect start, but are coming off a big 10-5 win over San Francisco on Wednesday, and are favored to win again on Friday.

Cubs vs. Dodgers Prediction
Take the Dodgers to win the game on Friday. Their records may be similar but the Dodgers are the better team when compared to the Cubs. LA relies heavily on their batters to win games, as they’ve scored 5+ runs in 7 of their last 10 games. The Dodgers have the 2nd-most runs (79), RBI’s (78), and home runs (24). LA’s pitching has been substandard, which may come back to bite them against Chicago, but I expect their offense to propel the Dodgers to victory over the Cubs on Friday.
Prediction: Los Angeles Dodgers Moneyline (-185)
