Diamondbacks Battle For NL West Supremacy
The Arizona Diamondbacks are 54-45, giving them a 54.5% win-rate. On the road, Arizona has been fantastic, going 28-21 in away games. But at home, the Diamondbacks are just 26-24, a 52.0% win-rate. Last month Arizona looked strong, going 16-11 in June, but after winning just 3 of their last 10 games, the Diamondbacks are 5-11 this month, and are clearly slumping after dropping three-straight.
The St. Louis Cardinals are having an uncharacteristically bad season. At 44-55, the Cardinals are 4th in the NL Central, and 12th in the Nationals League. They are 10 games back from the Diamondbacks, and went 1-2 against Arizona in their only series of the season. The Cardinals average more hits than Arizona, they just haven’t turned those into runs, and have struggled to keep their opponents off the scoreboard.
I like the Arizona Diamondbacks in this one. True Arizona has struggled in recent matchups, but they were playing quality opponents who are all over .500. The Cardinals will provide a nice respite for the Diamondbacks, who will get the season back on track against a below-average St. Louis squad.
