Ok, let’s get to our San Francisco vs Arizona prediction.
Giants vs Diamondbacks
Tonight the Arizona Diamondbacks will take on the San Francisco Giants. These teams are currently seeds 5 and 6 in the National League wild card picture, but that equates to 6.5 and 10.5 games behind the last wild card position. So to say that this game has little playoff implication would be wrong since anything can happen, but it is highly unlikely.
The Arizona Diamondbacks had very low expectations heading into this season, what day is severely over achieved even being 10 1/2 games out of playoff contention this team has managed to win six of the last eight games and are coming off two victories. The Giants have been playing somewhat decent baseball however as they themselves have won five of the last seven games. With serieses against the Diamondbacks Rockies and tigers coming up in their schedule next, this team might be able to sneak up closer to the wild card spot.
The pitching matchup in tonight‘s game will be the key part to watch as it will be between Merrill Kelly of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Jake Hunis of the Giants. In his last outing Kelly completed five innings against Pittsburgh on Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six batters. Kelly hasn’t taken a loss since late June, and he’s posted a 1.86 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 44:12 K:BB over 53.1 innings across his past eight starts. In Junis’s last outing he allowed six earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three across 2.1 innings Wednesday against the Padres. He has an ERA of 3.78 and a record of 4-3.
Statistically both these teams are pretty even as both the Giants and Diamondbacks rank in the bottom half of the MLB in both hitting and pitching statistics such as team batting average, team ERA, team runs scored and team slugging percentage. They both are poor in walks and rank in the top 7 for most walks averaged per game.
