Cubbies visit worst team in the MLB

The Cubs are now 47-67 on the season. They are third in the NL Central but only lead the Pirates by two games and the Reds by 2.5 games. They have won six of their last ten games though. Their season is over but they do have a promising youngster in rookie Christopher Morel.

The Nationals have the worst record in the MLB and it isn’t very close. They traded away Juan Soto in a move that signaled a full rebuild and are the worst team in the league. They are the only team that has not reached 40 wins as they are 39-78 on the season. They are at least coming off of a win though as they beat these Cubs 5-4 last night. 

These games are so hard to predict because these teams aren’t very good and very inconsistent. I do like the Cubs here though. The Nats will have Cory Abbott on the mound in this one. Abbot has been dreadful over his last two starts allowing 10 runs over just 7.2 innings of work. The Cubs will at least have a serviceable starter on the mound in Drew Smyly. Smyly is 5-6 on the season with a decent 3.69 ERA. Over Smyly’s last two starts he has been lights out as he is 2-0 and has not given up a run in 11.2 innings of work. The Cubs could easily put up 10 runs on Abbott here while I do have faith in Smyly against this terrible Nationals offense.
