Match Predictor (Win-Probability): Atlanta Braves (57.4%); Cincinnati Reds (42.6%)
The MLB season continues on Friday, June 23rd with a highly anticipated battle between two National League divisional leaders. The Atlanta Braves, who lead the NL East, will take on the “red”-hot Cincinnati Reds, who lead the NL Central. The Reds have won 11 consecutive games and are easily the hottest team in the MLB right now. But the Braves are the better team in this matchup, averaging the 3rd-most runs per game, and 4th-fewest runs against, which is why Atlanta is the favorite for Friday’s matchup.
The Atlanta Braves (-1.5; ML -148)
The Braves are 48-26 (64.9%), and while they aren’t on an 11-game winning streak like their Friday night opponents, the Braves have won 8 of their last 10. Atlanta has won 6 straight, putting them in 1st in the NL East, 1st in the National League, and 2nd in the MLB, just 2.5 games behind the league leading Tampa Bay Rays. The Braves are already being given an incredible 99% chance to reach the playoffs, and that’s because of their skill on either side of the ball. Averaging 5.46 runs per game, and giving up just 4.02, the Braves have been one of the most consistent teams in the league this year, and I like their chances to end the Reds streak on Friday.
The Cincinnati Reds (+1.5; ML +137)
The Cincinnati Red are the team to watch. Their 11-game winning streak is certainly something no one expected from this team. During their 11-0 run, the Reds averaged 6.18 runs per game, nearly 1.5 runs better than their 4.83 season average. But the Reds have struggled on defense, giving up the 27th-fewest runs (376) in the MLB. This run is certainly impressive but Cincinnati still only has a 25% chance to reach the playoffs.
The Reds can enjoy all the positive attention now, but it won’t last. They’ve found a groove, but their defense isn’t nearly good enough to keep the Braves off the scoreboard, and in what will be a high scoring game, Cincinnati’s impressive run will finally come to an end.

Braves vs. Reds Prediction
Take the Atlanta Braves to beat the Cincinnati, ending the Reds phenomenal 11-game winning streak. The Braves are going with a relatively untested starting pitcher in AJ Smith-Shawver, but with Atlanta’s skill in the field, as well as at the plate, the Braves should be fine with Smith-Shawver on the mound. The Reds won’t admit it, but the pressure is on to keep this winning streak going, and against the No. 2 team in the MLB, Cincy’s streak is highly likely to end against the Braves. Atlanta has the same amount of wins both at home (24) and on the road (24), which just goes to show how well-rounded this Braves team is. Combined, Atlanta and Cincinnati have won 17 straight games, and neither team will be looking to end that any time soon, but in what should be a thrilling matchup Friday, take the Braves to come out on top.
Prediction: Atlanta Braves Moneyline (-148)
