Ok, let’s get to this interleague battle between the Reds vs. White Sox.

For the Reds, this is a crucial series as they are on the brink of officially being eliminated from any chance of earning a playoff spot. Meanwhile, the ChiSox have already clinched the American League Central title, but they still have a strong incentive to finish strong since the question of home-field advantage in the playoffs has yet to be determined. Heading into the week, the Astros held a 2.5 game lead over the White Sox for the second seed.

As for the starting pitching match-up, the Reds will send veteran Sonny Gray to the hill to take on southpaw Carlos Rodon, who is 12-5 this season with a 2.47 ERA. We expect both of these starters to have success here tonight since Gray is 2-0 in four career starts at this ballpark, and earlier this season he tossed seven shutout innings against the White Sox.

The Reds offense also won’t have much success against Rodon, since they bat a league worst .210 as a team against left-handers and while Cinci will likely load its lineup with right-handed batters, that won’t do the trick against Rodon, who has held right-handers to a .171 average this season.

So, instead of allowing the bullpens a chance to blow this game for us, we are going to play the under 4.5 runs in the first five innings over at BetOnline and look for these starting pitchers to breeze through the early innings.
