Cardinals Hit Rock Bottom While Twins Fight For The Top Spot

The Minnesota Twins are in the top spot of the AL Central, while the St. Louis Cardinals have lost all hope of making the playoffs. The Twins are 55-53, which is somehow good enough for 1st place in their division. But the Cardinals are 47-61, which puts them in last place in the NL Central. 

St. Louis is having an off year. They won just 3 of their last 10 games, are 15-18 against the American League, and are coming off a 2-3 loss against Minnesota on Tuesday. The Cardinals have failed to score more than 3 runs in 6 of their last 7 games, despite being a top-10 team in total hits. 

I like the Twins in this one. Minnesota isn’t a great road team, but against the Cardinals they will be fine. St. Louis is great at the plate, but their pitching is a glaring weak spot. They recently acquired several new pitchers, but the Cardinals are starting Matthew Liberatore on Thursday, who is 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA, which doesn’t inspire much confidence. Sonny Gray, who is 4-4 with a 3.14 ERA, will be on the mound for the Twins.
