I know it’s a weird sentence to say out loud, but the Washington Nationals have actually looked like a decent baseball team as of late. This is an MLB team that currently has the worst record in the league at 46-87, and yet in the last week and a half of play they have looked impressive. They have won four of their last six games, with wins coming against the Reds, Athletics twice, and Mets. While those first two teams mentioned aren’t the best and are debatably on that bottom level with the nationals, their win against the Mets in a handed fashion with the final score of 7-1 was very impressive. It becomes even more impressive when you factor in the fact that Max Scherzer started for the Mets and Washington was a +320 underdog. Do they have a little magic left tonight in them as they enter into the game with the Cardinals favored at -250? The Cardinals enter tonight on a three-game winning streak and have solidified themselves in the playoffs as they now have a 99.7% chance of making the postseason. However, there will be sunny out Jake Flaherty for his season debut. He looked good in the AAA Memphis and got the call up. I expect him to struggle in his first game back.
