Brewers Fall Out of First in the NL Central
The Milwaukee Brewers are having a decent season, but after leading the NL Central for most of the year, the Brewers have fallen to 2nd place in the division. Overall Milwaukee is 58-50, just half a game behind the Cincinnati Reds, but a division title would automatically send the Brewers to the playoffs for the 5th time in 6 years.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are 48-58, putting them 9.5 games back in the NL Central, creating an unlikely situation for Pittsburgh to make the playoffs. The Pirates started the season strong, but have since steered the ship off course, posting a losing record in every month since April. They won 6 of their last 10 but often struggle on the road, winning just 41.5% of their away games.
I like the Brewers in this one. Milwaukee is 5-1 against Pittsburgh overall, and 3-0 against them at home. It’s never simple playing a division rival, but the Brewers have handled the Pirates with ease, averaging 6.5 runs and limiting Pittsburgh to 4.2 runs per matchup.
