Braves are in Real Trouble
Roughly 23 games into the season, there are two things we need to acknowledge. 1) The New York Mets are the real deal, and 2) The Atlanta Braves are in serious trouble of missing the playoffs.
The Mets lost their last game against James Norwood and the Phillies, and have lost two of their last three games, but they truly have dominated April, having the second best record in baseball at 15-8, half a game behind the Yankees for the best record. Coming into the season, the Mets were expected to be a good team, but they weren’t even favorites to win their division, as the reigning champs reside in it as well, but the Mets have flipped the switch and are already five games ahead of those same reigning champs. They are clicking on all cylinders, ranking 2nd in team batting average at .261, and equally as good ranking 1st in team ERA at 2.79.
The Braves are in trouble. Yes they’ve been without Ronald Acuna Jr., their best player and star, but that shouldn’t equate to a 10-12 start to the year with a roster that many believe is still among the best in baseball. They rank in the bottom 12 of all teams in runs/game, batting average, ERA, and on base percentage, and unless something changes, they aren’t even going to get second in their division with the Marlins playing the way they are winning 7 of their last 8.
