The MLB regular season continues on Wednesday, May 24th when the Baltimore Orioles take on the New York Yankees in a battle between AL East rivals (7:05 PM EST, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network/MLB Extra Innings). Both sides have played well in recent weeks and will look to topple the other in a highly-competitive division. The Orioles enter the game as the underdogs, with a moneyline priced at +135. The Yankees are the home team as well as the favorites, and their moneyline is priced at -155. New York took the first three-game series 2-1 back in April, and Baltimore is looking for redemption.

The Baltimore Orioles are 31-16 (66.0%) and are one of the best teams in baseball. They are 2nd in the AL East, 2nd in the American League, and 2nd in the MLB. Baltimore is 3 games behind the league leading Tampa Bay Rays, but the Orioles are slowly chipping away at Tampa’s lead. Baltimore made a significant dent after going 7-3 in their last 10, and are coming off a clean sweep of the Blue Jays. The Orioles scored 5 or more runs in 6 of their last 7 games, and entered this short series against the Yankees with a lot of positive momentum on their side.  

The New York Yankees (-1.5; ML -155)

The Yankees had a slow start to the season, but after going 8-2 in their last 10 games, it looks like New York is back to their winning ways. They are now 29-20 (59.2%) on the season, which puts them at 3rd in the AL East, 5th in the American League, and 7th in the MLB. Injuries have plagued New York early this season, but they are nearly back to full strength, and are playing with the confidence we’re used to seeing from the Yankees. New York has won 4-straight games and are coming off a 3-0 sweep on the road against the Cincinnati Reds, but now face a much tougher opponent in the Baltimore Orioles.

Take the Orioles to win on Wednesday. The Yankees are favored to win, both by the sportsbooks (-155) and the analytics experts (55.2%), but I like Baltimore in this one. They are coming off an impressive 3-0 sweep against the immensely talented Toronto Blue Jays, while the Yankees are coming off a 3-0 sweep of the lowly Cincinnati Reds. The Yankees are slowly working their way up the standings, and while New York has played well in recent weeks, the Orioles have been far more consistent with their wins. The Yankees have some big time sluggers on their team, but the Orioles average more hits and RBIs, and if Baltimore can limit New York’s home runs, they will easily win the game on Wednesday.
