Ok, let’s get to our San Diego vs San Francisco prediction.
Padres?
Yesterday we wrote about the Battle of Texas between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros, and tonight we have the Battle of California between the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. These two teams have met up 14 times this season, and the Padres have taken nine of those 14 matchups. That includes the last three games and a stretch in which the Padres won four straight matchups. With that being said, the team that had the most hype in the MLB by far just a month ago is in serious trouble. Naturally, I’m talking about the San Diego Padres after they traded for Juan Soto and made the best young core in the league, which included Soto, Fernando Tatis and Manny Machado. But then disaster struck as not even a month after acquiring Soto, we found out that Fernando Tatis was going to be suspended for the rest of the season PEDs. This team has managed to stay afloat since this came out, but they have obviously taken a big hit. They have won only five of their last 10 games and now have only a 1.5 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for the final wild card spot. This team was basically a pencil into the playoffs when they acquired Soto, and even before that. But now, if they’re not careful, the Brewers can and will take their spot. The Giants, on the other hand, have been nothing better or worse than mediocre this year. They floated around the final wild card spot the entire season, at one point even claiming one of the spots, but now have fallen down to 8.5 games out of the picture and only have a 1% chance of making the postseason.
The pitching matchup in tonight’s game will be between Joe Musgrave of the Padres and Alex Wood of the San Francisco Giants. Musgrave has had a better season by far as he has a record of 8-6 along with an ERA of 2.96. He has started in three games against the Giants this year and has averaged 7.0 innings pitched, 3.7 hits allowed and 0.33 earned runs. Alex Award, on the other hand, has a record of 8-11 and an ERA of 5.00. In his four starts against the Padres, however, this year he has shut them out twice and held them to only two runs in one of the other two starts.
