Battle at the Bottom of the Standings
The Royals are the 2nd-worst team in the MLB this season, just 1.5 games from last place. Kansas City is 26-67, which equates to a measly 27.9% win-rate. The Royals enter Monday’s matchup as the underdogs, where they are 25-61 on the season. Against the Tigers, the Royals are 2-4 on the year and average 3.7 runs versus Detroit through the 6 games. Kansas City’s run differential of -162 is the 2nd-lowest in the league, and in their last 10 games, the Royals won just twice, leaving much to be desired, and few moments of triumph.
The Detroit Tigers are not as bad as the Royals, but when the bar is that low, it’s easy to look good. With a 41-50 record, the Tigers are 3rd in the AL Central, but certainly not expected to make the playoffs, coming in at 12th in the American League. Detroit has done well against the Royals though, winning 7 of the last 10 matchups against Kansas City. Neither team has shown much promise, but in a head-to-head battle, I like the Tigers.
