Braves Host Struggling Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals are not used to dealing with adversity. In the last 20 years, the Cardinals qualified for the postseason 13 times, reached the World Series 4 times, and won the whole thing twice. However, this season will not end in triumph for St. Louis, and could in fact end with the worst record the Cardinals have posted in decades. St. Louis is currently last in the NL Central, 14th in the National League, and 26th in the MLB with a 60-78 record. Their pitching has been abysmal (4.71 ERA) and they allowed over 5 runs per game in their last 10 matchups, recording a 4-6 record along the way. The Cardinals now face the best team in the MLB, but can hold their heads high for now after a 10-6 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the series opener.
I don’t expect the Cardinals to beat the Braves again in this series however. St. Louis has been extremely volatile at the plate, while Atlanta has been a consistent force this season. The Braves are the first team to reach 90 wins, and with a 90-47 record, they are the Kings of the MLB. The Braves have the most hits (1293), the most runs (795), the best run differential (+235), the most home runs (263), the best batting average (.275), the best on-base percentage (.344), the most RBIs (768), and the best odds to win the World Series (+280). Compared to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Atlanta Braves are clearly the better team, and they will dominate in the series finale.
So for our Cardinals vs. Braves expert pick, take the Atlanta Braves to Cover the Runline (-148) on Thursday.
