Angels Remain Close to Astros

The Los Angeles Angels have not won the American League West since 2014, so the fact that there are currently only a game and a half to find the division lead is quite a surprise. Could this finally be the season in which we get to see Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani in the playoffs? It sure seems like it, as with a 26-17 record, the Angels have the 7th best record in baseball, and are firmly in the playoff hunt even this early. Once again, they are led by their All Star duo as Mike Trout currently has a batting average of .323 with twelve home runs on the season, and Shohei has batted in 28 RBI’s. But what has been different this season for the Angels is the fact that it is no longer just a two man show. Right fielder Taylor Ward has been sensational this year, owning a .370 batting average and a .713 slugging number. 

The Rangers season, on the other hand, has not gone quite as expected as they are currently on a two game losing streak, and have already fallen eight games behind the Astros for first place in their division. 

This game is a rather straightforward one, The Angels have been hot behind the plate as they currently ranked six in the MLB in team batting average and 2nd in runs scored per game. The Rangers rank 23rd in ERA, so this is a great matchup for the hot bats of the Angels. On the mound for the Rangers will be Dane Dunning, who’s had his struggles this season, only managing a 3.92 ERA to this point in the season.
