Angels Favored 

The matchup tonight in Los Angeles between the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Angels is not one between two good organizations this season. Since we are already in September and we start judging seasons based on the playoff picture, both these teams have already managed to secure a 0% chance of making the postseason. The Angels have the fourth worst record in the American League at 58-75, which is somehow better than the Tigers, who have the second worst record in the American League at 51-82. If you look into the statistics of this game, it is more a lousy numbers as both these teams rank in the bottom five of the MLB in all the major hitting statistical categories aside for home runs where the Angels ranked 12th, In large part to Shohei Ohtani, who has 30 home runs on the season. 

On the pitching side of the mound, the Tigers ranked 20th in Team ERA compared to the Angels, who ranked 9th once again, in large part to Shohei Ohtani, who owns a 2.58 ERA. Neither of these teams are typically favored in many games against other opponents, but the Angels are favored as they have one more of their last ten games than the Tigers have. These two teams have only met up in one season series back in August, and the Tigers won that three-game series 2 games to 1. They held the Angels to only four runs in three games while scoring eight of their own. 

The pitching matchup in tonight’s game will be between Tyler Alexander of the Tigers and Jose Suarez of the Angels. Neither picture has had a great season as Alexander has a win-loss record of 3-8, and Suarez’s record is 5-6. Alexander has an ERA of 4.76, and Suarez has a comparable error rate of 4.10. Suarez’s last outing was against the Yankees back in August, where he picked up the win, pitching 6 innings and allowing only two runs on three hits along with six strikeouts. Alexander’s last outing wasn’t as successful, as he didn’t get either a win or loss against the Mariners as he pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits.
