An Evenly Matched NL Versus AL Showdown
The Philadelphia Phillies are 65-54 this season, putting them in 2nd place in the NL East and 4th place in the National League. Last year’s runner-up has an 84.3% chance to reach the postseason once again, but after 2 consecutive losses, the Phillies are looking to get things back on track. In their last 10 games Philadelphia went 6-4, averaging 6.1 runs, 9.5 hits, and 2.1 home runs per contest.
The Toronto Blue Jays are right there with the Phillies at 66-54, but their domain resides in the AL. The Blue Jays are 3rd in the AL East and 5th in the American League, giving them a 68.7% chance to reach the postseason. Like the Phillies, Toronto went 6-4 in their last 10, but averaged 4.9 runs, 10.3 hits, and 1.2 home runs, giving Philly the edge over the Blue Jays when we look at their last 10 matchups respectively.
I like the Blue Jays in this one. It will be a close game, as the Phillies and Jays are separated by just half a game in the MLB’s overall standings, but Toronto is good at home (31-26) and are starting ace pitcher Kevin Gausman. Gausman is 9-6 (3-2 at home) with a 3.04 ERA and 183 strikeouts, the 2nd-most K’s of any pitcher in the MLB. The Phillies post the 7th-most strikeouts at the plate, and will struggle against Gausman.
So for our Phillies vs. Blue Jays expert pick, take the Toronto Blue Jays Moneyline on Wednesday.
