Orioles vs Rays

The American League East Division has truly been the best division in all of Major League Baseball this year. It’s incredible to believe that this late into the season, every single team in their division can still make a wild card spot. Coming into the season, we knew that the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Rays would be good, but not many had the Red Sox making the playoffs, and the Orioles entered the year with the bottom three worst odds to make the playoffs. Despite all that, roughly 100 games into the year, the Yankees have the best record in baseball, the Blue Jays and Rays both hold wild card spots, and the Red Sox and Orioles are both within 3.5 games of the last wild card spot.

Today we have a matchup between the very surprising Orioles and the Rays. Shortly before I’ll celebrate, the Orioles went on a 10 game winning streak which really helped flip their season. They have been the biggest surprise this year by far, and they have been led behind the plate by 2nd year man Austin Hayes, who currently has a .268 batting average. The Orioles and Rays have met up 13 times on the season, with the Rays taking seven of those games. Tonight will be a hard game on both teams’ batters because both pitchers Drew Rasmussen of the Rays and Tyler Wells of the Orioles have winning records with at least six wins on the season and eras at around 3.50, so expect the low scoring affair.
