AL East Battle Between First and Last
The New York Yankees are last in the highly competitive AL East, coming in at 54-49, while the Orioles lead the division with a 63-40 record. The Yankees are 9.0 games behind the Orioles, but the season series has been much closer. New York is 5-6 against Baltimore, averaging 4.2 runs against the Orioles 5.1 runs.
The Yankees Aaron Judge is finally back in the lineup, and played his first game back in New York’s 0-1 loss to the Orioles on Friday. Judge looked like he was shaking off the rust, and will undoubtedly play a crucial role for the Yankees going forward this season.
The Orioles lead both the AL East and the American League, making them a target for all AL teams. Everyone wants to take down the leaders, and the Yankees will look to close the gap separating them and Baltimore.
Despite the Orioles impressive record, I like the Yankees in this one. They held Baltimore scoreless through 8 innings in the opener, but were unlucky, giving up a home run to the Orioles Anthony Santander in the bottom of the 9th. Judge will provide a much needed resurgence of energy in the Yankees dugout, and I like what that means for New York on Sunday.
