Padres vs. Mets

mets vs padres

The San Diego Padres will open their series against the New York Mets when they travel to Citi Field (7:10 p.m. ET). The Padres are looking to continue their momentum from last series as they beat the Atlanta Braves in two of their three games. In the final game of the series San Diego won the game 4-1. To open the series the Padres will start right-hander Yu Darvish on the mound. Meanwhile, the Mets will look to bounce back after their loss against the Marlins to close out their series. On Sunday the Miami Marlins defeated the Mets 7-2. New York will start right-hander Max Scherzer in this one.

Padres Baseball

After a rough start to the season the Padres are tied in first in the NL West with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks. So far San Diego has had a good start on the road with a 2-1 record. Also, the Padres have scored 40 runs this season and have allowed 40 runs. Yu Darvish will be on the mound for San Diego on this game. Darvish has a 0-0 record with a 1.80 ERA. In his only start if the season he went five innings giving up 3 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, with 3 strikeouts. He will have his hands full against a loaded Mets lineup.

So far this as were not even at 10 games into the season Xander Bogaerts is having a great season for the Padres. He leads San Diego in every major hitting statistic with a .333 batting average, 3 homeruns, 8 RBI’s, a .425 on base percentage, and 11 hits. Manny Machado has also been great for the Padres with 9 hits and a .265 average. Look to see if Juan Soto can step up this series and get out of his funk. He currently is struggling at the plate with only a .182 batting average.

In their win against the Braves on the road, Soto got the game started with a solo shot homerun in the third inning. An inning later the Padres were able to put two more runs up. The Braves answered back with a run of their own in the eighth inning, but San Diego answered right back. Besides Soto, Rougned Odor had a huge game scoring in a run and crossing home plate himself in the ninth inning. Right-hander Michael Wacha went six innings only allowing 2 hits and had 10 strikeouts.

Mets Baseball

The Mets are in second place in the NL East with a 5-5 record on the season. They have had a good start to the season playing in front of their home fans as they are 2-1 on the season at Citi Field. So far this season New York has scored 39 runs and have allowed 46. Max Scherzer will try his best to keep at 46 runs allowed. In his two starts he has a 1-1 record with a 6.35 ERA. He has giving up 12 hits, 8 runs, 4 homeruns, 4 walks, with 8 strikeouts. We all know though that when Scherzer is on and feeling his pitches any lineup in the MLB is in trouble. Look to see if he can have his first good outing of the season in this one.

So far this season the Mets have had many of their players step up offensively. Starling Marte has been a big piece for New York already has he leads the team in batting average and hits. Marte has a .303 batting average and has 10 hits on the season. Pete Alonso has been fantastic also, with 5 homeruns, 11 RBIs, a .658 slugging percentage, and .237 batting average. Brandon Nimmo has found a way to get on base anyway he can this season with a .421 on base percentage.

In their loss against the Marlins at home, the Mets struggled to get any of their bats going only scoring two runs in the game. Alonso ripped a single to center to score one of the runs in the fifth inning. Right-hander Carlos Carrasco struggled mightily only going 4.2 innings allowing 6 hits, 6 runs, 3 walks, with 1 strikeout.

Padres vs. Mets Prop Prediction

I love the prop Xander Bogaerts to record a hit in this game. There is no question he has been the best hitter for the Padres so far this season. Plus, they are facing a struggling pitcher in Max Scherzer. Look for him to find a gap in this game and get a hit. This is the prop you want to take in this game.
