Phillies Pitching
Tonight we have a divisional clash between the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies. Actually this game is less of a clash and more of a thrashing with the Phillies will put on the Marlins. This game really is only important for the Philadelphia Phillies who are currently in a wildcard spot in the National League but only have a 3.5 game lead on the Brewers. So for them every game counts unlike the Marlins who have long been unlimited from the playoffs. Tonight‘s game will simply come down to the pitching matchup. The Marlins will be sending out Trevor Rogers and the Phillies will be sending out Bailey Falter. Rogers didn’t factor into the decision in Wednesday’s 2-1 extra-inning loss to the Rays, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out five. Returning from a back issue that had sidelined him for a month, Rogers not only looked fully healthy, he appeared to have rediscovered his 2021 form as he posted just his second quality start of the season, and his first since late April. The southpaw fired 58 of his 84 pitches for strikes before exiting a pitcher’s duel with Drew Rasmussen, and Rogers will have a handful of outings left this year to try and improve on his 5.57 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. Falter doesn’t look as though he’ll have to miss a turn through the rotation after he exited his Aug. 31 outing in Arizona with a right groin injury. According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Falter’s groin showed improvement two days after the start, so he’s not expected to face any major restrictions when he takes the hill again Wednesday. Over his last four starts with the big club, Falter has gone 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA and 0.82 WHIP while racking up 23 strikeouts over 24.1 innings.
