MLB ODDS & PREVIEW — RANGERS AT ANGELS 7/20
The Texas Rangers are sliding, and it is a good thing that they haven’t lost even more ground to the Houston Astros in the American League West. On Wednesday night they will once again hook up with the Los Angeles Angels in the finale of a three-game series that will begin at 10:05 PM ET at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. BetAnySports customers will have an opportunity to place their wagers on this game even after the first pitch is thrown, as they partake in all that is available through the facilities of Live Betting Ultra.
At this moment, the Rangers are 55-40, which has them in first place in the AL West, and they are 4.5 games ahead of the Astros. But they have lost six of their last seven games, and that has to be very disconcerting. Giving up 17 runs over the last two games has to be alarming. Will they get any comfort out of tonight’s pitcher? He’s Martin Perez, who comes into the game with a 7-6 record and 4.05 ERA. His opponent is another southpaw, Hector Santiago (7-4, 4.27), an All-Star last season who has been showing a little more of that form lately.
In the MLB odds that have been posted on this game by the folks over at BetAnySports, the Angels are favored:
Texas Rangers (Perez – L) +127
Los Angeles Angels (Santiago – L) -137
Over 9 Runs -125
Under 9 Runs +105
Rangers +1.5 Runs -150
Angels -1.5 Runs +130
Tuesday night’s game was filled with offense, just as a lot of people expected, as neither Kyle Lohse nor Tim Lincecum was very effective. Lohse, one of the stopgap starters the Rangers are using, allowing seven runs in 4-1/3 innings, while Lincecum, the two-time Cy Young winner, struck out seven batters but also allowed three runs and nine hits in five innings of work.
Remember that on an overall basis, the Texas bullpen has been unreliable, as they have an ERA up over 5.00. And the Angels have won five straight games, scoring at least seven runs in four of them.
BetAnySports patrons want to take note of what Santiago has been doing lately. He is, in fact, one of the hottest pitchers in the American League, going the last three starts without allowing an earned run, spanning 20 innings against the Red Sox, Rays and White Sox. What’s additionally impressive is that he has surrendered just 12 hits in those three outings. But in his last two starts against the Rangers, he has been touched up, to say the least, allowing nine runs in eight innings, losing both of those decisions.
Perez has been blown away on the road in his last two starts, allowing seven earned runs in four innings against the Red Sox before the break and five earned in 5-2/3 innings against the White Sox afterward. But he blanked the Angels over six innings the last time he faced them (May 24). He’s had a Jekyll-and-Hyde existence, with a 2.48 ERA in Arlington and 5.49 elsewhere.
