Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins Preview
The Denver Broncos did not have a pleasant experience on the defensive side of the football last Sunday. And frankly, the same can be said about the offense. So this team has had to turn right around and play a Thursday night road game, as they line up against the more troubled San Diego Chargers in an AFC West encounter that is set to begin at 8:25 PM ET at Qualcomm Stadium. Customers who are signed up with accounts at BetAnySports will have the chance to place their wagers on this game even after the opening kickoff, as they access the awesomeness of Live Betting Ultra.
The Broncos were beaten from beginning to end by the Atlanta Falcons, and at home no less, just four days ago, and there were several reasons for it. One of them was certainly the presence of Matt Ryan and a potent Atlanta offense that was executing well. But another involved the fact that the Broncos had to start rookie Paxton Lynch at quarterback, as Trevor Siemian was sitting out with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder.
Siemian has vowed to start this game, and most people expect that to happen, but this is probably a decision that is going to be made rather close to game time. And that decision will be made by Joe DeCamillis, who is serving as an interim coach for this game, as Gary Kubiak experienced severe migraines and had to be hospitalized this week.
In the Thursday night NFL betting odds that have been posted on this game at BetAnySports, the Broncos are laying a small number on the road:
Denver Broncos -3 (-115)
San Diego Chargers +3 (-105)
Over 45 points -110
Under 45 points -110
Lynch completed 14 of 24 passes against Tampa Bay when he had to step in for Siemian in Week 4, and was 23 of 35 last Sunday, but just didn’t seem all that comfortable or able to move the team all that well. And Lynch, who doesn’t possess an awful lot of mobility, was sacked six times. Something that did not help was the injury absence of right tackle Donal Stephenson, but he is expected to be back for this game. If he isn’t, well, Ty Sambrallo had quite a bit of difficulty in his place.
And the Denver ground attack has to work better too. The Broncos have averaged just 3.6 yards per carry, and if they could put together a sustain a rushing game that would take the pressure off whoever takes snaps.
The Chargers are 1-4 and, as BetAnySports patrons are keenly aware, have figured out a lot of different ways to lose. They have lost three games by a total of eight points and, of course, they blew a three-touchdown advantage against Kansas City in the season opener and lost in overtime.
Philip Rivers does not have the injured Keenan Allen or Danny Woodhead available, but he seems always able to make something happen. He is 68% accurate this season, with eleven TD passes and just three interceptions. He has also lost two fumbles; the Chargers have lost eight fumbles altogether, including two from Melvin Gordon, who is testing the patience of coach Mike McCoy, who in turn is testing the patience of the team’s fans, some of who are calling for his head. But they’ve got a real bright spot; Joey Bosa finally made his NFL debut last week and had two sacks, two QB hits and three tackles for loss.
