Colorado at Atlanta Game Preview

The Colorado Rockies and the Atlanta Braves kick off a big four-game showdown in the National League this Thursday night. Game time from Sun Trust Park is set for 7:30 p.m. and it will be available on ESPN+.

The Rockies split a pair of games against Houston this week on the road after taking three of four from the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend at home in a key NL West matchup. They are now 64-56 overall and just a game and a half behind Arizona for the lead in a very tight division title race. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing 7.5-run line in Wednesday’s 12-1 loss to the Astros as +187 road underdogs. It had stayed UNDER in Colorado’s previous four games.

Jon Gray is set to get the start for the Rockies on Thursday night. The right hander is 9-7 this season through 22 previous starts and he comes into this series opener with a 4.81 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. Last Friday he lasted 5 2/3 innings against the Dodgers in Colorado’s 5-4 win. Gray gave up four earned runs on eight hits including one home run.

Atlanta has gotten hot at the right time of the year with a five-game winning streak as part of an 8-2 record in its last 10 games. The Braves are 68-51 after sweeping Miami this week to open up a two-game lead on Philadelphia in the NL East. They outscored the Marlins 30-10 in that four-game series. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in six of Atlanta’s last nine games on BetAnySports’ closing line.

Look for Julio Teheran to get the start for Atlanta in Thursday’s opener. He failed to get the decision against Milwaukee last Saturday despite holding the Brewers to one earned run on two hits in six full innings on the mound. The Braves went on to lose that game 4-2. Teheran’s ERA is now set at 4.33 with a 1.25 WHIP through 23 starts this season.

In a matchup that is listed as a PICK with BetAnySports, my lean is towards Atlanta as a hot team playing at home. I would give the Braves the slight edge on the mound and their bats were white hot against Miami.
