BASEBALL ODDS – YANKEES HOPE THEY GET A SUPER-NOVA EFFORT TUESDAY

The New York Yankees had to be pleased with what they got out of a pitcher who was returning from Tommy John surgery in his last start. Now they will see if he can do it again as the Bronx Bombers try to win one in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels, in baseball betting action that gets underway at 10:05 PM ET.

In the first game of this series, the Yankees were unable to solve the CJ Wilson, who managed to bounce back from a horrible outing in Houston by leading the Angels to a 4-1 victory. Fortunately for the Yankees, they did not lose ground in the American League race, as they remain a half-game behind the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays with a record of 41-36. The Angels are now 40-37 and are four games behind the Houston Astros.

Los Angeles is now on a three-game winning streak and has won five of its last seven games, despite the fact that they have not scored four runs more than four runs in any of those games.

In the baseball betting odds that have been posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Angels are the home favorites:

Los Angeles Angels (Heaney) -129

New York Yankees (Nova) +119

Under 8 runs -115

Over 8 runs -105

Ivan Nova, who was coming off surgery and making his season debut, impressed everybody with 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits along the way. He wasn’t mowing down hitters, as he only registered one strikeout, but you couldn’t really expect more out of that performance last Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Now let’s see if he can approach that effort as he faces off against Andrew Heaney, who has also made only one start this season, as he went six innings and allowed only one run against the Astros, who are arguably the best defensive team in the American League. The Angels won that game 2-1, but Heaney was a bit unfortunate in the respect that he got a no-decision in that game.

BetAnySports customers know that the Yankees should get some additional good news by the weekend, as centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury should be back with the team. Elsberry, who has not played since May 20 after spraining his right knee, is currently in a Single-A ball in a minor league rehab assignment. At that time, the Yankees might have a bit of a dilemma, since they have gotten some encouraging offensive production out of outfielder Chris Young. Young is hitting .388 against southpaws, so his presence will come in handy against Heaney on Tuesday night.

Certainly the Angels’ pitchers have been holding up very well. If you look at the last eight games they have played, the staff as a whole has allowed more than three runs only once – that coming in a 13-3 pasting at the hands of Houston on June 23. And in case you were wondering how the Yankees as a team did against left-handed starters, they have held their own with a 11-10 record, and are hitting .243. Those are not exactly awe-inspiring numbers, but they will take them for the time being.
