BASEBALL BETTING PREVIEW – SEATTLE MARINERS AT LA ANGELES ANGELS 8/17
Well, the Los Angeles Angels finally broke their losing streak, which had reached eleven games, but although we wish we could say “onward and upward” for this team, there really is nowhere to go but to possibly escape the American League West cellar. On Wednesday night they will try to take the third of a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners, with the action starting at 10:05 PM ET in Anaheim. You should know that BetAnySports customers can keep their own action going even after the first pitch is thrown, as they challenge the baseball betting odds in real time through the magic of Live Betting Ultra.
The Los Angeles bats broke out in the 7-6 victory, with three homers, including Albert Pujols’ 22nd of the year, as they roughed up the Seattle bullpen. This made up for another poor effort from pitcher Jhoulys Chacin, who allowed four runs before leaving the game in the fifth inning.
The Mariners are currently at 63-55, which is six games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West, and in the wild card race they are three games behind the #2 team in that queue, the Boston Red Sox (remember, there are two wild cards in each league). The Angels got some relief with yesterday’s victory and are 50-69, which is 20 games behind Texas.
Right-hander Cody Martin (1-2, 2.70 ERA), who failed to get out of the third inning in either of his 2015 starts, including one against the Angels, will get the ball for the Mariners. He’ll be opposed by left-hander Tyler Skaggs (1-1, 4.37 ERA), who was hit hard in his last outing.
In the baseball betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Angels are the home favorites:
Seattle Mariners (Martin – R) +126
Los Angeles Angels (Skaggs – L) -136
Under 9 Runs -115
Over 9 Runs -105
The Angels had scored 17 runs in their previous eight games, so they were happy to get some offense. They will try to apply a little more of that against Martin, who has appeared in five games, all in relief. He has struck out five and walked one in ten innings. After being sold from the Atlanta Braves to the Oakland A’s, he started two games, going three innings in each. Against the Angels on September 1 of last year, he gave up five runs in three innings, and then on September 16 he gave up six runs in another three-inning sting against the White Sox, and that included three homers.
Skaggs was golden in his first two starts this season, throwing seven scoreless innings at the defending Kansas City Royals, then 5-1/3 scoreless against Boston. But on August 6 he permitted twelve batters to reach base in 5-1/3 innings against this Seattle crew, and then let the roof cave in last time out against Cleveland, which reached him for seven runs on ten hits in just five innings.
The Mariners are scoring 4.9 runs per game on the road, but only 3.9 when going up against southpaws. The Angels are averaging 4.9 runs against righty starters.
