BASEBALL BETTING PREVIEW – COLORADO ROCKIES AT NEW YORK METS 7/29/span>
The New York Mets have seen some attrition to their pitching ranks, and they are doing everything they possibly can to stay involved with the National League East race. They suffered a tough loss to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, and will try again in the second of this four-game series, scheduled to get underway at 7:10 PM ET at Citi Field in Queens. Remember that if you are a BetAnySports customer, you’ll have a chance to put down some more action even after the game begins, through the considerable facilities available through Live Betting Ultra.
The 2-1 loss on Thursday afternoon, which came when the Rockies scored twice in the ninth inning off closer Jeurys Familia, brought the Mets down to 53-48, and they are still a game and half behind the Miami Marlins and now the St. Louis Cardinals in a battle for the second wild card playoff position in the NL. The Rockies are within five games of those two teams, as they got to within two games of the .500 mark (50-52) with the victory.
Right-hander Tyler Chatwood (9-6, 3.65 ERA) gets the start in this game for Colorado, while big left-hander Steven Matz (8-6, 3.36 ERA) takes the hill for the Mets.
In the baseball betting lines that have been posted on this contest by the folks over at BetAnySports, the Mets are solid favorites:
Colorado Rockies (Chatwood – R) +154
New York Mets (Matz – L) -164
Over 7 Runs -130
Under 7 Runs +110
Rockies +1.5 Runs -160
Mets -1.5 Runs +140
Between their top four starters (Matt Harvey is gone for the year), the Mets have everybody at a 3.36 ERA or under. Obviously one of these four starters is Matz, who got a taste of the majors last season and not only compiled a 4-0 regular season record but made starts in the NLDS, NLCS and World Series. The Mets have lost seven of his last ten starts, and they have scored an average of three runs for him over his last seven outings. He came up with one of his better performances in his last start, as he held the Miami Marlins to four hits in six scoreless innings.
Chatwood has given the Rockies a certain measure of consistency on the mound, and this is especially encouraging, considering that he is returning from Tommy John surgery in 2016. As BetAnySports customers could see, bad outings were rare for him, until recently, that is, when he was touched for four runs and eleven base runners (eight hits, three walks) against the Phillies on July 10 and seven runs in three innings against Tampa Bay on July 19. In his last start he held the Atlanta Braves to just one hit in five innings, but his pitch count was 97 because issued no less than EIGHT walks. Chatwood is 5-0 with a 1.30 ERA on the road, and in only one of his eight road starts has he surrendered more than a single earned run.
The Mets have been somewhat anemic offensively, to say the least. In their last ten games they have tallied just 25 runs, and in only a couple of games have they scored more than three.
