Which Head Coach Wins
Tonight will be the beginning of new eras for both Temple and Duke. For Temple it will be the head coaching debut for Stan Drayton. He will become the fourth coach to begin a season with the Owls in the last seven years. For Duke, it will be the debut of Mike Elko, who was hired to try to revive this organization. Both these teams are in rebuilding mode. They are both coming off 3-9 seasons and there’s a reason why they have new head coaches, so expect an ugly showing. Alcohol is coming over from Texas A and M, where he was a defensive coordinator, and that was a huge point in why Duke hired him as they really struggled on defense last season. Hopefully he can help because Duke hasn’t had a winning season since 2018, when they finished 8-5 and capped that year by defeating the same temple team in the Independence Bowl. Temple’s last winning season was when they went eight and five in 2019. All in all, these are two football organizations that have a long way to go before they are relevant, and today will be the start of their new eras, but it will be an ugly start.
