The Colorado State Rams finished last season with a record of 3-9 and had a conference record of 2-6. They ended the year in fifth place in the Mountain West – Mountain division and lost six straight games to end the season. Heading into this season the Rams will start Clay Millen at quarterback and will have Giles Pooler as his backup. Both of these quarterbacks are freshmen and this game will be their first taste of college football. Pretty unfortunate for them that it comes against this amazing Michigan Wolverines squad. The Rams passed for 3,000 yards last year and threw for 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. They also rushed for just under 2,000 yards and scored 14 rushing touchdowns. They averaged 251 passing yards and 164 rushing yards per game. In this game, it is unlikely they will have much success moving the ball either on the ground or in the air.
The Michigan Wolverines finished last season with a record of 12-2 and a conference record of 8-1. They finished as the #3 ranked team in the AP Top 25 and lost against the Georgia Bulldogs in the college football playoff semifinals. Heading into this season, the committee has the Wolverines ranked 8th. They head into this season with quarterback, Cade McNamara. McNamara is heading into his senior year and will look to lead the Wolverines back to playoffs and hopefully to the championship game. Last season he threw for 2,576 passing yards and 15 touchdowns while throwing only 6 interceptions and having a quarterback rating of 141.9. As a team, the Wolverines passed for 3,202 yards and rushed for 3,001 yards on the season. This team is clearly great at moving the ball through the air and on the ground. However, they lost their rushing leader from last season to the NFL Draft but they get back Blake Corum at running back who put up the second most rushing yards for the Wolverines. Corum rushed for 952 yards and had 11 touchdowns, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Pretty impressive stuff. McNamara and Corum are in great positions to have an even better season and will need to depend on each other to get there. Expect Michigan to have a good season as they only have two games against teams ranked in the top 25, and they don’t happen until after 7 games have been played.
This time around, expect Michigan to win but to score a lot more points in the process. Michigan is the heavy favorite and will start their season off with an easy game. Colorado State will benefit in this game, however, as they will have their two freshmen quarterbacks feel what it’s like to play at one of the most electrifying college football stadiums in the world.
For our expert Michigan Wolverines vs Colorado State Rams pick, take the over on the 60.5-point total.
