Wake Forest For Real?

Wake Forest is currently ranked number 22 in the entire FBS in the preseason NCAAF rankings, which is the highest preseason ranking in program history for a team that has many question marks heading into the season. A huge question mark has come in the form of Sam Hartman being ruled out indefinitely. Hartman was a starting quarterback heading into the season for Wake Forest, And he now will be out indefinitely as he will be missing an extended period of time for treatment for a medical condition unrelated to football. Mitch Griffiths will now be in the spotlight at the starting quarterback position, at least to begin the season. Just a year ago, this Wake Forest team earned a spot in the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship game and matched the school record with 21 wins, so they are coming off a great season. But with this glaring issue at quarterback, I’m not sure this team will even match what they did last year. Virginia Mill has been on a relatively hot streak of success as well, as they went 6-5 last year, which gave them back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1961 and 1962. Their main standout was linebacker Stone Snyder, who was a 2021 Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
